CD Reviews

At his best

"Gillan's voice is amazing and powerful. I would even put this album next to Made in Japan by Deep Purple. Most of the songs are from Clear Air Turbulence, his unusually funky and jazzy record. The style of Ian Gillan stands out with every single record he produces. Live at the Rainbow catches us in the time period, when he was trying to find his style after breakup with Deep Purple. The remake of classic Child in Time sounds much better than the studio version, and the vocals on Purple classics is great!"
Simply excellent

"Wow! I just finished listening to this album, and I must admit the quality of this live recording is exceptional. The opening cut of "Clear Air Turbulence" was really tight and super funky. You can almost tell that these guys were listening to Zappa at the time. What really stood out was the re-working of "Child In Time", Which had a great Pink Floyd-ish drum break down. Fans of Deep Purple and Ian Gillan Better wear their diapers, this c.d. absolutely rocks!!"
