Synopsis

Album Description
Produced by lead singer Tom Galgano, and mastered by Greg Calbi, whose credits include the latest works of Paul McCartney, Sarah McLachlan, and Aerosmith, Sliver of a Sun has the dark grandeur of Radiohead and the melodic inventiveness of Lennon/McCartney. With musical background as diverse as rock, jazz, funk, jazz, Latin, Celtic, musical theater, and classical, the members of IZZ each bring their own unique approach to the music. Evidenced throughout the CD, this equates to an infinte array of ideas and treatments. Sliver of a Sun cannot be pigeon-holed into one style of music. The music IZZ creates on their CD is a powerful force that brilliantly blends style with versatility.

CD Reviews

Nice american prog work
Marcelo A. Soto Quiroga | Maracay, Venezuela | 12/05/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I've never heard about this band till a month ago when browsing this website just found it linked by another albums I was searching for.
Let me tell you it's very very interesting. Nice musical arrangements, variety of rhythms and moods. For moments it slightly resembles an early King Crimson, even EL&P. Another passages can be paralleled to Yes and Gentle Giant. I DO NOT want to say they're copying those great proggressive dynosaurs... but perhaps some kind of inevitable influences can colour the arrangements and tones that way.
Anyway, this is a good work. Very recommendable for those prog lovers searching for something new without going too far outside US."
Solid

"The fact that a band is eclectic does not necessarily make them a "good" band. Izz is both diverse and entertaining. There is the obvious influence of such modern rock as Dave Matthews and Radiohead, combined with flavours reminiscent of Marillion and Yes. Tom and John Galgano produce such pleasant harmonies, while the two percussionists and AMAZING guitarist catapault Izz into "great" band status. Word of mouth says the sophomore album is coming soon. Hopefully, it will showcase the best of Izz, the stellar technique and vision of the bandmembers. Way to go, Izz!"
