Synopsis

Album Description
Limited digipak edition of the 2010 release from the Manchester Alt-Rock trio. Following 2007's I Am Kloot Play Moolah Rouge, Sky At Night further goes to cement John Bramwell's status as one of the most talented songwriters in the UK. The album is infused with an almost Parisian elegance. Tracks like 'It's Just The Night' and 'The Moon Is A Blind Eye' reveal a Gainsbourg style of sophistication, but are still punctuated with their own inimitable Northern soul. A songwriter's songwriter, Bramwell is one of our finest wordsmiths and counts Pete Doherty and and Elbow's Guy Garvey amongst his many fans. Having produced their hugely acclaimed debut album Natural History Garvey, alongside bandmate Craig Potter, has returned to produce and mix this sublime 10 track collection. Shepard Moon.

CD Reviews

Gently persuasive...
Nse Ette | Lagos, Nigeria | 07/19/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I Am Kloot are an Indie trio from the UK, and their fifth CD "Sky at night" is produced by Guy Harvey of Elbow. The result is a stripped, surreal Folky affair. Opening track "Northern skies" is a bouncy affair, but "To the brink" is a slow Jazzy Waltz (with incredible strings), more in tune with much of the album, one of gentle introspection perfectly suited to vocalist John Harold Arnold Bramwell's yearning delivery.

"Fingerprints" has a fuller sound , but still manages to sound morose. "Lately" is slow moving Blues/Soul/Folk, while "I still do" is a delicate acoustic ballad ("When I was a boy, I looked out at the sea / thought I saw you and me."). "The moon is a blind eye" is set to delicately plucked guitar and sporadic percussion rolls.

"Proof" starts off a delicate acoustic ballad swelling to a euphoric climax Coldplay-style, as does "Radiation". "It's just the night" is a haunting and melancholic and incredibly beautiful, conjuring images of Paris. Closing is the Jazzy horn-peppered "Same shoes".

Most of the album rarely rises above funereal pace, but with songwriting this strong and melodic, this is one album you'll find gently creeping into your brain and refusing to let go. Charming!"
