"Let me first say that this is a band whom the critics have seriously raved. I guess I wish I would have paid closer attention to the details of the reviews, because this just simply is not for me.

I am a huge fan of Stoner Rock, not so much the doom side of things, but definitely the bands who have taken their direction from the Hard Rock guitar sound of the 1970's, the era which I proudly grew up in. My problem with Hypnos 69 is that there is just an abundance of finesse with

very little firepower. If these guys know how to rock it just doesn't seem to be evident on their cds (not on the two expensive ones I purchased anyway)- the album meanders along all the way to the end, never taking off.

I will be honest in saying that I obviously misunderstood what I was getting into here, but I suppose that is the purpose of these reviews. If You are strictly a fan of progressive rock, then You may indeed have high praises for this band. But if You are looking for something that "rawks", or has some bite You may want to reconsider. There is just nothing here (for my tastes anyway) that I'd put the volume past "3".

Music is a funny thing. You either "get it" or you don't. Are these guys brilliant musicians? Certainly I'd give that to them. Do they reach me on the inside where it counts? Nope, sorry."
