Hypatia Lake?s debut CD is a full-fledged concept album, with spoken-word bits introducing head-scratchingly great, post-mod, shoegazer-y psychedelia. The album tells the story of a fictional town and its inhabitants ? of the monotony of working in the town?s candy factory, of an elderly man who hasn?t forgotten a long-ago heartbreak, of the joys of childhood. This CD features songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Lance Watkins, lead guitarist Jared Hill, bassist Shane Browning, and drummer/keyboardist Randy Skrasek. Since its release, the band has changed its line-up and released a terrific follow-up, "And We Shall Call Him Joseph" (June ?06).
