CD Reviews

Great Lyrics, Great Voice, Great CD

"I made a tape of this from a friend's CD several years and I shared it with my family and friends who loved it. One day, years later, I was walking through the Fresno State campus and I heard a curious sound. A band was playing in "The Pit" where many students eat lunch. I stopped to listen and was blown away when I recognized the sounds of "Hummingfish". I immediately sa down and enjoyed one of the best surprise concerts you'll ever hear. This band is fantastic in person and on CD. The lyrics are thoughtful, the arangements interesting, and the vocals from Deb Talan outstanding. I've always thought that her voice sounds a lot like Natalie from the Dixie Chicks. Hummingfish is by no means a country band but there is a definite connection with the music. Songs like "Herons" are beatiful and others like "Call Waiting" and "George Washington's Bones" are very funny. I can't believe Amazon even has this CD. I've been trying to get information on Hummingfish for years with no success. The version of "Hover" that I have was purchased at that concert at FSU and doesn't even have any record company label logos. I think this version was put out by the band. Get this CD, it is totally worth it!"
By far one of the best recordings ever!

"A couple of years ago when I was moving out of my apartment after I graduated from Whitman College my CD wallet was stolen. This album and Love Tractor where permanent residents of that wallet. I was able to find a copy of Love Tractor in Harvard Square a year later, but I have never recovered Hover. This was by far the worst loss of the entire wallet! I have seen this group live a few times and think that they're the best group I've ever seen. I don't know if they're still around anymore, but if you can your hands on a copy of either of their albums you'll never want to let them go!"
GREAT BAND THAT DESERVES MORE PRAISE
