CD Reviews

Hannibal could have done a better job
Todd Osborn | College Park, MD United States | 07/28/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Hugo Largo's CD Mettle is an inventive, evocative, and gorgeous set of songs. The CD is a must have, in my view, for anyone who wants cutting edge music in their collection. It's definitely not for the casual listener.

This particular re-release, however, disappointed me in at least one regard. The bonus tracks, while completely worthy of inclusion, were mastered from a vinyl copy, and it seems that no care was taken to try to remove the surface noise. I could have made a better sounding copy of Arms Akimbo from my vinyl copy, so even a minor record label like Hannibal should have resources enough to find a decent copy, or at least to remove the pops and scratches from the copy they did use.

They took a 5 star re-release and made a 4 star release of it. Shame on you Hannibal.
