Synopsis

Album Description

Horslips released many superb albums along the way, becoming Ireland's best Folk-Rock and Progressive band. The Book of Invasions was originally released in 1977, subtitled "A Celtic Symphony," was, like The Tain, inspired by Irish mythology, this time the story of Tuatha De Danann's conquest of ancient pre-Christian Ireland. Talking Elephant. 2009.

CD Reviews

Absolutely Fantastic Reissue

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I waited more than a decade for this Album to be remastered and re-released. The wait was worth it.

This is definitely a clear, crisp, clean presentation of Horslips at their best. This concept album blends Irish mythology with ancient Celtic musical styles to transport the listener to a Medieval setting that conjures up the mist and mire of the bogs and forests of a time long past.

The Album is named for the Lebor Gabála Érenn, a book of Irish mythology known as The Book of Invasions in English. Released in 1976, it is considered by many, myself included, to be the best work of a band who should be regarded as the fathers of Celtic rock for their fusion of traditional Irish music with rock music.

Every track is wonderful and distinct but all combine a rhythmic charm with vivid lyrics recounting tales of love, unity, power and glory.

If you like Irish Folklore or Celtic music with a lean toward Rock Music, this is a must buy!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"
