"Made in GER in 2000, Serial# 203460-307, Playing Time 78:58This 2CD set actually combines 2 albums: disc 1 is the "The Book Of Invasions - A Celtic Symphony" in the CD version (which had a different version of "Daybreak" than the vinyl release), while disc 2 contains the rarities already published as "Tracks From The Vaults".It's a more economical purchase than getting each album separately, but the title is quite misleading as no other album is featured on this "Best Tracks" album. If you're new to the music of this Irish group, the present set may not be the best place to start; the band's career evolved from truly folk celtic rock to a more straightforward rock direction (e.g. The Man Who Built America).Still, the first disc here is a classic in its genre!"
Good introduction wit a pleasant suprise

"already familiar with the most of this noblest band of Ireland (the 2-CD set "The Best Of ...." from 2001 is a great help) this album is an outstanding introduction to newcomers in this field and a great re-introduction to fans alike. But it is not merely a compilation like so many others, Horslips included, but contains on the first CD the integral 1976 concept-album "The Book of Invasions - A Celtic Symphony". The second disc offers a more varity of their songs from diverse albums. It is a great listen, from soft rockballads to traditional Irish tunes towards a more hardrocksound, with overall solid playing. These men were prime musicians, each of them capable to play several instruments, able to perform in studio and live. Great band! Highly recommended. 30 years after date this has nothing lost of the beautiful music it represents."
A Great Collection!!

"CD 1: Book of Invasions - A Celtic Symphony -- 5 stars

Undoubtably the BEST horslips album.... period!

Book of Invasions is a set of songs that tell a story based on old Irish/Celtic mythology. A Really Cool story! Book of invasions is a fantastic CD that's like nothing else out there!

Best Songs:

Daybreak

Trouble with a Capital "T"

The Power and the Glory

The Rocks Remain

Sword of Light

CD 2: Tracks from the Vaults -- 4 stars

Tracks from the Vault is a compilation of songs from other albums. While not as good as Book of Invasions, most of Tracks from the Vault's songs are pretty good, and (mostly) they're very different (as opposed to repetitively similar). A large portion of the songs are solely instrumental (Johnny's Wedding, Flower Among Them All, The Fairy King, The High Reel, King of the Fairies, Phil the Flutters Rag, The Fab Four - Four, and Oi Sins Tune) but that doesn't mean that they're not good! King of the Fairies and The High Reel are both especially good. Green Gravel is a cool folk-ish song, and Motorway Madness is a rockin' rock song. And dont even get me started in Dearg Doom, which is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE songs.

Best Songs:

Dearg Doom

King of the Faries

The High Reel"
