CD Reviews

Recommended for ANY baroque horn fanatic

"I don't think that this CD deserves such a low rating as a previous review shows. Yes, I do think the recording quality is rather low, but the concertos are amazing. Again, Peter Damm produces a stellar performance when combined with Dieter Pansa. I especially like the concerto by Quantz, and out of all the different recordings I've heard of it, this recording is the best. Peter Damm brings charm into these concertos. I think that his ability to play such complicated music in such a high register is amazing. The concerto by Fasch is also noteworthy, especially the second movement. Along with Damm's other recordings, and Barry Tuckwell's: Baroque Horn Concertos (by Knechtel, Quantz, Reinhardt, Rollig, Graun), this CD would complete your baroque horn collection."
Disappointed

"I was disappointed listening to this recording of Baroque horn concertos from the Dresden court. In particular, the sound quality of the music, which was recorded in the former German democratic republic, is poor in comparison with recent similar recordings. Listen, for example, to the beautiful recording of Telemann horn concertos on D & G (Dabringhaaus & Grimm). There is no comparison. I do not recommend this recording."
