"Years ago, a friend of mine introduced me to his father's record collection with an album of the original music from "Peter Gunn". I quickly made a cassette from the album and promptly played it to death. That was many years ago, and since that time I have searched endlessly for the cd of this music. Once, I bought a cd containing the music from "Peter Gunn", but it was a disappointment because it wasn't performed using the original instrumentation (very important!). Needless to say, I was on cloud nine when I found the ORIGINAL soundtrack to "Peter Gunn" performed by none other the man himself, Henry Mancini, and his orchestra! When I finally received the cd in the mail, I couldn't get to my stereo system fast enough. Instantly, I was transported to the wonderful memories I always associated with this music. Recently, I was able to see the original episodes for the first time. Now, my love for this classy, jazzy music has taken on many new shades. It's cool, laidback, always on time, and sharper than a double-edged blade. That's kind of the way I'd like to be."

His music from the hit TV series employs traditional swing rhythms (with the big band sound augmented by french horns and a variety of flutes), as well as a cool, relaxed rhythm combo sound. For those of us who wore out our old vinyl copies years ago, the long-overdue remastered CD release of this landmark Grammy-winner is most welcome. Play it once, and you'll be hooked!"

"I can honestly say that I enjoy this particular Henry Mancini release above any of the greatest hits compilations out there. This album is the archetype of that dreamy retro-lounge aura. The Peter Gunn theme is reason enough to own this album alone, but my favorite cut is a tune called "Session at Pete's Pad." Why this upbeat piece with subtle albeit wicked bass never registers in the mainstream is beyond me! Excellent mood music for a warm summer evening."
