CD Reviews

"wonderful holiday music he left behind"
J. Lovins | Missouri-USA | 11/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a treasure of holiday music, "Our Man In Hollywood", left behind for all of his old and new fans to enjoy. Remember most of these were recorded in the mid '60s, I can still see the vinyl album cover, with Hank sitting at the piano as his loving family stand around him singing Christmas Carols.Typical Mancini flourishes with his distinctive use of instruments like the French horn and bass flute, crisp, bracing, yet unfailingly melodic contribution of a large string sections abound throughout the several medleys on this festive CD. Bonus tracks appear on this re-issue - "BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE"..."HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS", introduced by Judy Garland from the film "Meet Me In St. Louis"..."WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR'S EVE?..."AULD LANG SYNE"...and "SNOWFALL", this delicately wrought tune has a tranquilizing almost mesmerizing effect.Henry Mancini is no longer with us, but this wonderful collection of holiday music, will be a constant reminder that he was here and made the difference...as you have a "Mancini Moment", listening to "Henry Mancini Greatest Christmas Songs"! Total Time: 53:40 on 15 Tracks...RCA Records 07863 67970...(2000)"

"Tasteful, traditional orchestral Christmas music. More importantly, "Carol for Another Christmas" may be the most beautiful Christmas composition of the 20th Century."
