Synopsis

Album Description
"Azam Ali's voice is a glorious, unforgettable instrument." -- Billboard "[A] thought-provoking musical statement ... heartbreakingly beautiful songs." -- Washington Post Dean & Dudley Evenson have created an exquisite fusion, bringing together Jewish, Christian, and Muslim music of the Middle East. This deeply moving collection of sacred chants and songs reflects the common yearning for peace shared by these three faiths, all descended from Abraham. This timeless, inspiring, and spiritual album will have crossover appeal to people looking for a more universal approach to the holidays. This disc features world-renowned artists Azam Ali (Vas, Niyaz), Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Jai Uttal, Fadia El-Hage (Vox), and many more great vocalists and musicians. Iranian born Azam Ali is internationally recognized for her work with Vas, the best-selling world music duo she co-founded. She is acclaimed as one of the most gifted singers on the world music stage today. Early Christian women's chants of the Middle East are creatively revived through the magnificent singing of Lebanese contralto Fadia El-Hage.Israeli singer-songwriter Ofer Golany and his Musicians for Peace offer a spiritual treat from Jerusalem.

Great Music Brings Spirit of Peace from Middle East
Harmony | Pacific Northwest | 12/29/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Where else can you hear Jewish, Christian and Muslim music all together in one amazing album? Dean and Dudley Evenson have done it again bringing all this great music together in a fantastic compilation that really gives a person hope for peace in the Middle East. And it's a high energy world music mix that really moves the spirit. The chants by Jai Uttal, Azam Ali, Lydia McCauley and Gina Salá really soar. It's a welcome followup to their albums Prayer (which even has a track by the Dalai Lama) and Sacred World Chants that features Deva Premal, Sophia and Snatam Kaur among many others. Spread the word. We need more of this kind of musical statement."
