"These are very lively accounts of Haydn's sonatas that make versions played on the modern grand (Brendel comes to mind here)sound hopelessly inarticulate. Brautigam's playing is fast (sometimes just a little too fast) in some movements but where he wins is in his stylish shaping of the slow movements. My only serious qualm with the disc, and it goes for others in the series as well, is the overly reverberent recording which tries to give the impression of a modern piano grand sound and is hardly truthful!"
