Synopsis

Album Description
Born in Columbus, Ohio on October 10, 1915, Harry "Sweets" Edison was one of the most respected and sought after studio Jazz trumpeters for many decades. He participated on countless sessions with such celebrated figures as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Ben Webster, Buddy Rich, Nelson Riddle, Shorty Rogers, Quincy Jones and Woody Herman, to name but a few. This edition presents two complete small group albums by Harry "Sweets" Edison, both appearing here for the first time ever on CD. Patented by Edison features an all-star quintet fronted by Edison and tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest, who by the time of this recording (February 12, 1960) had already participated on three 1958 albums with Sweets. The bonus album, Sweetenings, appears directly before the album Patented by Edison in Edison's discography as a leader, with respect to chronological order. Despite this fact, he participated on many LPs by other artists in the interim period between these two albums. Jazz Collectors.
