It's already midyear and we have another batch of new English bands to deal with. This time it's The Cribs, The Dead 60s and Hard-Fi. Some of these bands mix rock with ska, hiphop and punk and create new hybrids. Hard-Fi seem the most interesting of the bunch so far. They are true dole scum from Staines. They seem like the most urban. They seemed partly inspired by The Specials and The Clash. Like those bands they start out with rock and punk, and move on to a reggae vibe, and just come to the conclusion that they can do any sort of music, including dance music. "Cash Machine" has the mood of being alone. "Tied Up Too Tight" starts off with a hiphop sound and continues with rock drums. "Sick Of It All" is much like reggae dub and punk. They even do a version of "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes. It sounds like as if it was done by The Specials. This is an interesting band.

"I just got back from seeing THE BRAVERY, where I picked up this CD (Hard-FI opened for them). The songs are awesome...this is a great ep, I hope they make a proper record soon and get rich and famous!!
