Early Handel's masterpiece
Igor Goryunov | Russia | 03/07/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"For me it was complex enough to estimate the given execution of early Handel's trio-sonatas as these sonatas are described in catalogues of his works as a trio-sonata for two oboes and B.C. Such version has been released on Bayer records. That version was very convincing, though execution and record quality left much to be desired. Execution and record quality of these sonatas by ensemble Convivium undoubtedly is much better, however replacement of a party of the second oboe with a violin might be is proved from the point of view of correctness of perusal of the score (though it too disputably as there is only a non-original copy of the score), however alters perception of sonatas a little, in particular, deprives with their some charm and the intimacy inherent in execution on two oboes. If to abstract from this feeling, undoubtedly given execution deserves all praises and should be in a collection of each Handel's and works' for oboe fan."
