Superb performance of a little-known choral masterpiece
Steve Johnson(scj@transmeta.com) | Los Gatos, CA | 07/04/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a sometimes choral singer, I have long known Handel's "Dixit Dominus" as one of the most difficult pieces Handel wrote for singers, and one of the most difficult in the choral literature. The music is a masterful setting of one of the bloddier psalms, 110, talking about how the Lord will wreak various kinds of horrible vengeance on your enemies. The music is fast, large vocal leaps, very complex with chant melodies overlaid by agitated choruses. The performance is superior. The orchestra is precise and the chorus captures the bloody intensity of the music while hitting all the notes precisely (not easy with 16th note octave leaps!).This recording is one of my most treasured--I'm sure that people who enjoy choral music will fall in love with it too."
