Feeling and refinement in a natural recording

(5 out of 5 stars)

"My knowledge of classical music is patchy but I love Handel and I have other recordings of these Handel arias. My favourite is this one ( along with Kathleen Ferrier's, on Decca vinyl ). Gauvin's voice is light, joyful, and marvellously expressive -- you feel she has the music down pat and can simply put her soul into singing it. Tafelmusik is equally joyful, energetic and precise. The sound of the recording is open and lovely. No shrill highs, but purity of timbre and lots of space. I can still hear the Ogni Vento, and I last listened to it nearly a month ago. A wonderful disc."
Exceptional Handel

"This cd is a delight in every way. I am a huge fan of Handel and this program does him honor. Karin Gauvin is an outstanding singer and her bel canto technique is amazing. Joan Sutherland sang some of this material (from Alcina) and Gauvin is at least her equal if not her better. Jeanne Lamon and the Canadian group Tafelmusik provide outstanding support and the overtures and interludes are very well done and in the best baroque style. In short...if you are a true Handelian, you must have this disc."
