How did RADIO miss this???
10/27/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been surfing all my life, chasing that elusive perfect wave, searching for that one incredible undiscovered break. Well I found it. Only it's a CD. It may be about a decade old, but Hand of Fate is one of those records that you listen to and it causes immediate pleasure and pain. Pleasure because this debut CD has maybe one weak song on it in my opinion. The pain part comes from realizing this is the first and last CD you'll ever hear from the talented duo that co-wrote and self-produced every song -- John Keck and Rick Boston. In a world where the airwaves are flooded with boy bands and teeny bopper-sluts promising Victoria Secret peek-a-boos -- how can a CD like Hand of Fate not at least have gotten SOME airplay? How did this record completely miss both critical and commercial notice? Probably because the corporates goons at WTG Records were too busy running their company into the ground through mismanagement instead of promoting the one good band they signed. But hey, timing is everything in music -- just as it is in surfing.God is Alive may well be one of the top ten greatest rock songs ever written. It is at once melodically haunting and lyrically stylized, packing a walloping metaphysical punch.Love Revolution is a flat-out pop smash and not getting it on the sales chart must have taken some overtime brainstorming at WTG.Border to Border is excellent as well (I heard a recent bootleg demo that is more acoustic that may have one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard). How can anyone not love a record with a line like, "My Karma's out to get me..."IF you can find this CD BUY it immediately. It runs the gamut from pop to ballad to hard rock and delivers one great song after another. Find this CD. Otherwise, you are missing out on one of the best debut albums EVER. That's right. Ever. I recommend it that highly without reservation."
