Search - Hafez Modirzadeh :: By Any Mode Necessary

The title of this project is inspired by Malcolm X's social-revolutionary statement "By Any Means Necessary"; and its eclectic programming is inspired by Bruce Lee's martial arts philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Such messages are applicable beyond any one chosen medium of expression. Formative inspiration for me has come from experiencing total honesty as expressed in crystallized form by such masters as Vincent Van Gogh (through his letters to his brother Theo), Malcolm X (through his Haj pilgrimage), Bruce Lee (through his Tao of Jeet Kune Do), and John Coltrane (most directly through his music). Indeed, - - Hafez Modirzadeh Both "In Chromodal Discourse" and "The Peoples' Blues" were part of the original recording sessions of May, 1989, and January, 1992. These works rely more heavily on composition for clear delineation of the cultural parameters exchanged, while "By Any Mode Necessary" is a compilation of mostly "blowing" sessions done between 1993-97. This third installment recognizes the importance of first-take, improvised interpretations of simple and/or standard progressions, the exception being "Karna Passages", a multi-track overdub of the ancient Persian double-reed. This subsequently opens another window in the chromodal transformative process, leading us hopefully from cultural to cosmic proportions.
