"I became aware of this group when living in Puerto Rico in 1975-1979. They were the first to incorporate the sounds of the natural world part of their recordings. They used traditional instruments and played traditional music in a wonderfully updated style. I probably wore out my albums listening to them so often. I remember attending a concert they played with Roy Brown, another neo-traditionalist, but Roy's songs were more politically oriented. There was great controversy and some radio stations refused to play their music because it was considered too revolutionary, and might encourage support for the Puerto Rico Independence Movement. This group is magnificent and their music should not be missed. Their sound influenced, if not actually started, the global music tradition."
