Reintroducing American singer David Reece (ex "Accept"/"Bang
Nikiforos V. Skoumas | Athens Greece, Cambridge UK | 10/03/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been anticipating the availability of this album on Amazon since its release in Europe during August 2008. Who are "Gypsy Rose"? We are looking at a Swedish hard rock/melodic metal band which released its debut a number of years ago (although their original conception occurred during the late 80s). Their second album "Another World" features on lead vocals DAVID REECE; the least famous voice of "Accept" (Remember "Eat the Heat" album of 1989) later lead singer for "Bangalore Choir".

It has always been clear to me that Reece had a tremendous set of pipes while his late 80s performances were absolutely inspiring. However when he joined forces with the German metal outfit he was automatically regarded (by the majority and press) as the black sheep of the "Accept" family probably because he replaced the band's main attraction.

Reece should have received more positive credit as the albums he recorded during the 80s are considered by a good party of fans as classics. On this note, "Another Word" does David justice in two ways: First it clearly uncovers what a great deal of a vocal powerhouse he is (Gypsy Rose is by far his best ever performance and album) while secondly the majority of the press was equally impressed by the release as I remember the album receiving only positive reviews amongst the official/popular metal magazines.

For those who have last heard David in the late 80s, the man has a great deal of vocal attack that he has never before utilized in any of his previous releases but he clearly demonstrates his titanic capabilities on this amazing album.

Songs like "Final Call" , "Angels", "Nothing really matters" and "Liar" are class A melodic metal anthems but the title track is a sheer rollercoaster where Reece sings "I'm from another kind of world- great expectations come unfold" and one can not possibly disagree with him as his singing is stellar while also convincing as no other.

Martin Kronlund is a great guitarist and formidable composer while bassist Mats Bostedt and drummer Imre Daun form a furious and enviable hard rock rhythm section.

If you like "Bangalore Choir" or believe that Accept's "Eat the heat" is criminally underrated "Another World" is tailor made for you.

Sorry for the lengthy introduction but I felt it was about time to look into David Reece's considerable and underrated contribution to the hard and heavy sound as I think it is time to regard the singer as a major force in today's hard rock/melodic metal scene. On a personal level I clearly follow this mindset, from now onwards I put David amongst the top 5 singers of the late `00s alongside Ralf Scheepers and Mark Boals. I also hold the greatest of expectations from his future works.
