Synopsis

Album Description
Though they found worldwide fame in 1969, Winnipeg's Guess Who had been scoring scads of hard-rockin' hits in Canada for years, beginning with 1965's ferocious rendition of 'Shakin' All Over.' Now, spurred by the recent unearthing of a bevy of vintage master tapes-and with the help of Guess Who guitarist Randy Bachman - the Sundazed label gathered 24 of The Guess Who's hardest-hitting, most awesome recordings from '63-'67. With many tracks in true stereo and a handful of cuts that haven't seen daylight for more than 30 years, Shakin' All Over! is the ultimate distillation of the seismic sound of the early Guess Who.

Early Guess Who Garage Sounds
Fredric A. Cooper | Torrance, CA United States | 09/22/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Here are the early recordings (and Sundazed undoubtedly picked the best of 'em) by The Guess Who. Their cover of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' "Shakin' All Over" certainly shook up radio in that great rock year 1965. Unfortunately, everything else kinda suffered in comparison, but there are some real gems here, such as "Use Your Imagination" (previously unreleased), a very good cover of The Hollies' "You Know He Did", "Gonna Search", and "It's My Pride", with a terrific vocal by brand new member Burton Cummings, who quickly took over lead vocal chores when Chad Allan (who sang "Shakin'") started suffering throat problems. Excellent liner notes, giving us a history of this early incarnation of the group. As much as I like some of the group's RCA recordings, these show a grittier, rawer sound, and are a real treat, especially for garage band fans. You'll skip some of the tracks (mainly due to rather weak lyrics), but more than half of this CD is really rockin'."
