Smoldering, finely crafted capital "S" Salsa release by the talented percussionist Steve Guasch and crew. To perform original material, yet to capture the feel of classic '70s salsa from the likes of Barretto, Pacheco, Eddie and Charlie Palmieri, Roena and Ismael "Maelo" Rivera was Guasch's aim here, and he has succeeded with high marks. There's a lot of talent here including pianist and composer Julio Jáuregui, bassists Jeff Norwood and José Soto "Mortadelo." Also with congueros Paoli Mejias and Johnny Conga, three trombonists: Will Martin, Dan Marcus, and Eliel Rivero and many others. A fine job by vocalists Joe De Jesús and Marcial Isturiz. Influencias is a salsa collectors Must-Have, and a big DJ Alert as well. Highly Recommended. (BP, 2009-06-09)
