CD Reviews

The One and Only -- Groucho
J. GENIO | Earth | 09/15/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Here he is, the one, the only. . . Groucho." This was the opening to Groucho's game show, "You Bet Your Life." Julius Marx -- a.k.a. Groucho -- is an American original. Groucho made it in Vaudeville, the big screen, and; after that, television. Not only did he host "You Bet Your Life." He was also the guest host on the Tonight Show. As a matter of fact, Groucho introduced Johnny Carson was the permanent host of the "Tonight Show."This CD features some of Groucho's best momments and most memorable songs -- Tunes like his theme song, "Hooray for Captain Spaulding" and "Lydia the Tattooed Lady." Like all good comedy, Groucho's bits are not outdated. Groucho's wit will still keep you in stitches. I dare anyone to keep a straight face after hearing Groucho do his Doctor Hackenbush routine. -- IMPOSSIBLE!!!! N'est pas possible!!!! I definitley recommend this CD because it captures a piece of American History. . . a piece that only Groucho can present."
At ease, colonel !

"A great collection of bits Groucho Marx did for the radio. Anybody who enjoys his antics on the silver screen will love this CD, and the accompanying volume "Gregariously Groucho". Quoting some of the jokes just wouldn't do, because you'd be missing Groucho's unique voice and delivery. Full marks to the tiny Raven-label from Australia for presenting this great collection !"
