Delightful surprise

"I bought this album for nostalgia - my aunt had given me a 78 of I Saw the Harbour Lights. While the rendition of that piece is good, I was quick to discover that When Budapest Was Young is more interesting musically. I was surprised by the more classical pieces, surprised to find that a composer whom I knew only from pop music was, in fact, a talented composer in a more classical style - a classical European appreciation of the Afro-American sound. While he is very much a composer of his era - I don't think Grosz will be a big name in a thousand years - he is well worth your listening time."
