"the rating would be much higher if i was able to. apparently the norwegians know how to out-pogue the pogues because the greenland whalefishers do it in spades. gwf have been around since 1993 or 1994 if i remember right, a ways before flogging molly & dropkick murphys began popularizing the irish/punk sound in music. and in all honesty gwf are so much better. in their heyday the pogues were one of the best bands around, but these guys (& it hurts me to say this because i've been a pogues fan for 16 or 17 years now) would completely blow them away. this is a re-release & i own the original patchwork release. if you buy one album this year make it this one. from the first track you know these guys mean business. throughout are the raging guitars, arvid's shane-esque vocals (lyrics are in english & are very well written), agnes's angelic voice (esp. on the opening of johnny lee roth), the fiddle, the mandolin, & the ever-present tin whistle. i can't say enough good things about this disc. the bagpipes even make an appearance on the last track. just listen to it. personal favorites are the title track, "july morning", & "elisabeth." essential for any pogues fan or pub punk fan in general. buy this."
