A nostalgia trip for me, but a pleasant one

"I bought this CBS release, "Ravel's Greatest Hits" from Amazon.com this past winter (early 1995) as a nostalgia trip, but it is a pleasant one. I had this same release on a Columbia LP in 1973, containing the first recording I'd heard of Ravel's "Bolero" by Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic Orchestra. A few years ago, I bought a recent Sony reissue in the Bernstein Century series, hoping for his New York Philharmonic "Bolero" but in it's place, a droopy, sluggish recording made in the 1970s by the Orchestre National de France. The New York recording, featured here, is MUCH better.

The other selections are no less excellent, especially Bernstein's "Alborada del gracioso" and Ormandy's "La Valse". For around $5.00, you can't go wrong."
