CD Reviews

A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!
Richard D. Cappetto | Moodus, CT United States | 08/15/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well one pleasant suspire hear is the DVD is a separate disk, I had expected it to be a two sided sided disk with the DVD on one side, and the hits CD on the other.

The packaging is cool. The CD case is in a sleve and between the sleve, the booklet and CD we have alot of GFR promo shots, including some from the We're An American Band-Shinin On period and even a picture of the HUGE crowd GFR and Humbel Pie Drew at Londons hyde park in 1971. Overall a nice JOB.

On the DVD is included the We're an American Band promo Rockumentry, which is cool, but has been out there for years in other forms. In truth this copy does not look much better then the version's I already have. BUT it is nice to have it on a professional DVD, instead of one I burned from tape. The Second track is inside Looking out from PBS in Hershey Ra WITF TV which is totally fantastic. Mark, Don and Mel in 1969 with the cloths from that period; Mark with His Messenger Guitar, with Tape over the holes, is just too cool; With Don and Mel the best rhythm section in rock and roll history, you cannot go wrong. This looks and sounds great. The Third Track is Some Kind Of Wonderful From the Place at Auburn Hills, MI in 1997 during the ordinals reunion (1996-1998), a very nice version. the Next track is We're An American Band from that same show; Since we already have a versions of WAAB I would of picked another track hear, maybe loneliness would of been a better pick hear. BUT still I cannot complain, GFR on DVD is very Cool. Both SKOW and WAAB are pristine (why not get this whole show out on DVD?) both tracks look and sound great. To Close out the DVD we have I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home from the famous Shea Stadium Show in 1971 were GFR sold out faster then the Beetles. This is very very cool, it looks very good and sounds very good, we have got to get this whole show out of DVD. Well, I love it, the DVD is fantastic, BUT please capitol could you not have made it a bit longer?

The CD is the standard GFR 14 hits, of course they all sounds great, capitol has done a very good job with the re mastering. We're An American Band-Number one hit; Time Machine; Walk Like A Man; Some Kind Of Wonderful; Shinin On; Heartbreaker; Rock N Roll Soul; the Loco Motion-number one hit; Footstompin' Music; Mean Mistreater: take Me; Bad Time; Bad Time; I'm Your Captain; Inside looking Out. All great songs by Americans Gratest bad, a must have for any rock n' roll fan.

This hits Package is well worth it for the CD alone and even more so for the DVD, finally GFR on a professional DVD. I hope this is just the start of GFR on DVD. If you don't have GFR hits CD this is a good one to get."
About Time!!!

"It's about time Grand Funk's fans had a real DVD! All we have had up to this point is the occasional bootleg. My only complaint is that the DVD is WAY too short. Both of the represented concerts need to be released in their entirety! Even with this DVD we are only being teased.

As for the greatest hits CD, it should have came with the DVD in the first place, instead of having been released a couple of months before without it.

Overall, the purchase is well worth it for the DVD. As for a greatest hits collection, I would recommend 1999's "Thirty Years of Funk Anthology". (Also for historical purposes, I would like to se a CD release of "Mark, Don, & Mel: 1969-71".)

I hope that this is the begining of us finally getting some more Grand Funk Railroad on DVD! CAPITOL, ARE YOU LISTENING?!!

"
GFR rocks on!!!

"Compared to an old cassette of "The Best of Grand Funk Railroad," the sound of the digitally re-mastered recordings are no comparison. They are smokin'!!! The added bonus of the DVD just enhances enjoyment of some good old-time rock-n-roll!"
