"As a long-time fan and collector of Richard Thompson's music, I bought an import version of this (Woodworm Records?) in the early 90s and still find it to be one of the most unusual and enjoyable in his catalog.

First, a correction to the description above; the fourth member of the group (as listed in the artwork) is Ralph McTell ("Streets of London"), not Simon Nicol. He splits the lead vocals with Richard Thompson as they tear through an inspired set of (mostly) covers.

The high point for me has always been the heartbreaking one-two punch of Thompson singing Marvin Gaye's "Don't Do It" (in The Band's arrangement) followed by Bob Dylan's "Going, Going, Gone". My favorite McTell tracks are "Penitentiary Bound" and "Pretty Boy Floyd".

Although this is definitely not to everyone's tastes, if you're a hardcore R.T. fan, you'll probably love this. I paid what seemed like a ridiculous amount of money when I bought this in the early 90s ($20?), but it's been one of my most listened-to R.T. albums ever since."

"I was surprised to find this recording available. This is a recording I had heard great things about but did not know was now a legitimate release. This is a live 1981 performance by The GP's. What we have here are three members of Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, Dave Pegg & Dave Mattacks, joining with Ralph McTell to mostly troll through songs by such great writers as Hank Williams, Holland/Dozier/Holland/, Doc Pomus/Mort Shuman, Buck Owens etc. Most lead vocals are by McTell, with some by RT and enthusiastic backing vocals by RT, McTell & Dave Pegg. It is obvious that these are great musicians playing songs that they love loosely and with feeling and enthusiasm. To me a great performance, and fun to listen to."
