CD Reviews

Genius of Balkanology
smiljan spasojevic | Houston, Texas United States | 10/18/2000

"I have almost all of Bregovic's CD-s and they are all excellent, without exceptions. This one is my favorite, because he rearranged his famous rock hits which he made for his rock band "Bijelo Dugme".His talent was very well known in Balkan from 1974, and his band was the most popular in Yugoslavia, from its beginning to its end in 1990.On this album, Bregovic wraped his rock hits in the pure Balkan arrangements, with original instruments and great voice of Turkish singress Sezen. He also rearranged some melodies which he composed for the films, but this time in turkish style. His sense for the ethnic music from Balkan is amazing! In his melodies you can feel the funeral as well as the wedding, and in his arrangements you will find Serbian, Greek, Macedonian, Turkish and Bulgarian styles! If tou like ethnic music you will not miss if you buy this excellent CD. SMILJAN..."

"Goran Bregovic made a really great album when he made the soundtrack to the movie Underground. The music he made there was energetic and festive. Since then he has made the same album again and again. He made a Greek version (very laidback), a broody Polish version and this one, the Turkish version, which is very sensual. And energetic as well. A truly great album again. The genius of Bregovic is, that he takes the same music but makes a new album everytime. Fascinating! Can't wait for the next one!"
