CD Reviews

The "Creme" of the Crop-great Godley & Creme 2fer
Wayne Klein | My Little Blue Window, USA | 03/25/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Two of the duo's finest albums L and Freeze Frame are tightly focused pop art masterpieces. The first album has a couple of guests most notably Andy MacKay from Roxy Music. His guitar playing counterpart from Roxy Phil Manzanera appears on Freeze Frame. His playing provides a interesting sonic backdrop for Lol and Kevin's songs. There's also an uncredited appearence by Paul McCartney on one track from Freeze Frame. One Way has done a marvelous job of remastering both albums. The sound on Freeze Frame is a huge improvement on the Japanese CD released a couple of years ago (and at half the price!). The original album graphics are pretty faithfully reproduced. This is one of the better reissues released this year. One can only hope that One Way will see fit to reissue the rest of the duo's back catalog (and perhaps the out of print 10cc albums as well)."
Two Masterpieces of the Imagination
Hugh Coyle | SW Vermont | 01/01/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Creme and Godley, the musical geniuses behind the band 10cc, let their wild imaginations loose on these two brilliant releases from the late 70s. Having them packaged together at a bargain price makes this a "best buy." Though infused with technological treatments and state-of-the-art (back then) production values, these are NOT "techno" albums at all. They're lush soundscapes with some of the smartest, wryest lyrics ever. These were some of the most experimental songs produced at the time, and they stand the test of time well. Their humor and social commentary remains on target, and the music doesn't sound dated at all. Highly uncommercial, never boring, and sonically brilliant, these two albums will always have an honored spot in my music collection."

"I've waited since the invention of cd's for Godley&Creme's "L" album to appear on cd. If you like your music melodic, rhythmically interesting - if you like singers that can sing, and players that can play - and can play with inventiveness and brilliance - if you like lyrics intelligent, artistic and witty, you'll love this. "L" is a masterpiece, and the other album is 99% as good. These people have nothing to declare but their combined genius."
