CD Reviews

SIMPLY "THE BEST"
Marcos B. Santos | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | 09/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Here is one of the best album of all Gladys Knight and The Pips' career! Impeccable, splendid! Listen "Sorry Doesn't Allways Make It Right" in the voice of Diana Ross, in the album "Ross" (1978) and listen this same tune in the voice of the group to compare, with ecstasy, what Gladys and The Pips are able to do with a song! (I love the talent of Diana, too. It's just a comparison). With the exception of "Saved By The Grace Of Your Love", not so good, all the rest are amazing! The album contains, besides the mentioned songs above, "Come Back And Finish What You Started"(Van McCoy/Joe Cobb), "All The Time" (Barry Manilow/Marty Panzer)(I didn't know that Barry Manilow was capable to compose something so good!), "It's Better Than Good Time", "Butterfly", "The One and Only", "Don't Say No To Me Tonight", "Be Yourself" (Van McCoy again) and "What If I Should Ever Need You" (also recorded by Aretha Franklin). It's a record to play from the beginning to the end, to fans and non-fans of Gladys Knight & The Pips."
