CD Reviews

REAL Latin music (Who's Ricky Martin? LOL)
Neal C. Reynolds | Indianapolis, Indiana | 06/15/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'm referring above to the reviewer from England's comment. No disrespect to Ricky Martin, but as an ex-Californian exposed regularly to latin music, this is the real thing. "Volare!" was never the same after the Gypsy Kings' recording, and a great start to the first and upbeat disc of the set. "Bambaleo", "Baile Mi", "Pida Me La", "A Ti A Ti" all are standouts, but there's no way you can listen to this first disc without being enervated. However, the one single cut that really gets to me and has me singing along (You wouldn't really want to hear that, LOL) is the previously unavailable "Oh Eh, Oh Eh". Hey, if you ever wake up feeling blah, try putting this on!The second disc has the more beautiful and evocative ballads, such as my favorite, "Mujer". I didn't personally care as much for their rendition of "Hotel California", but, well, that's just me. All in all, this is for those who enjoy the real, earthy latin music."
