CD Reviews

Neo-classical now age recording
01/27/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This recording is reflective of an approach encompassing musical styles from Bach to Dvorak and Ravel, through the teachings of Segovia and beyond to 20th century popular styles. Gilda Taffet is a consumate guitarist with a performance technique and approach to composition that is "for the ages." The musical integrity and attention to detail, along with flights of melody, harmony and rhythm are of a nature both timeless and of the moment. These are compositions written to be heard! The recording features solo guitar, flute and guitar, vibraphone and guitar and two guitars. The compositions are by the guitarist,Gilda Taffet, along with 5 Meditations by California composer, educator and author,Daniel Kingman and a movement from "The Black Decameron" by Leo Brouwer. The recording was made at Paradise Studios in Sacramento,California. The musical and acoustical aesthetics are of the highest quality. As technological innovations progress, the center of music production appears whenever and wherever the capital exists to produce it. Recordings of a timeless quality arrive from locations far removed from the media center, and the mission of the consumer is to pay attention to the signifiers that decree a superior product which will endure. This is one!"
