Gottfried tells some of the funniest tasteless jokes you'll ever hear. Some you'll recognize, some you won't, but those you do will be vastly improved by Gottfried's delivery and banter between jokes... in one instance, he goes off on a tangent of Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld impressions. The finale is a ten minute stretch of the famous aristocrats joke. The material is fast-paced and the laughter is non-stop." Well Gilbert Gottfried is setting out to do just that. Unfortunately, he should have used a phone book since it's funnier than most of this material. As much as Gottfried can sell a joke (and I did find myself laughing aloud at jokes that I have NEVER found funny in the past - not even in 6th grade when we all tell these jokes) there are just too many old jokes in this thing. You got the traveling salesman jokes, the three homosexuals in a hot tub jokes, the Polish jokes. These things were ancient when Gottfried's great great great grandfather was learning Yiddish swear words.
Still, it's Gottfried and there's an enthusiasm that he brings to the table that most comedians wouldn't have. And the "editorial asides" really do sell quite a few of the jokes. And this is the quintessential "sneak on the IPOD of a religious friend" CD. I would give this CD 3 stars, however the Aristocrats joke definitely warrents its own star and ALMOST justifies buying the entire CD." |
