"This "little big band" recording is a treasure. Featuring guys like Steve Lacy and Jimmy Cleveland among others, it swings hard in a subdued fashion. It is unlike most of Gil's other recordings in that manner. The band is loose (meaning relaxed) and has a great feel. There is plenty of great solo work with room for the soloists to stretch out, and plenty of the great Gil Evans ensemble work too. On "Ella Speed" the ensemble plays "fours" with the drummer and it just cooks. Jimmy Cleveland is featured on "If You Could See Me Now" and plays it so beautifully that he just defines the tune.I had this side on vinyl years ago, and it's great to see it reissued so that those who missed it can now enjoy this one!"
