"After reading the first review here, I felt like I should defend these guys. I personally thought the western theme was refreshing and well done. Sure it's got influence from old westerns, but this is not some kind of Tex Ritter or Gene Autry outfit. They play in the creepy stuff like ghosts and zombies to make it modern and interesting. The band overall are good musicians and the music is well delivered, even the vocals. It's probably not everyone's thing, but if you like a little Glenn Danzig along with your Johnny Cash, Ghoultown is it!"

The Misfits go western

"I think the title says it all. Combine the Misfit's love of B movies and mix in the american western. While Ghoultown is every bit as alternative country as it is punk, I think it is a good combination. This isn't a CD you will listen to every day but it still finds it't way into my CD changer on a regular basis."

If You Love Horror and Southern-fried Rock, You'll Love Thes

"I've been a hardcore fan of horror movies and horror literature most of my life, so it should come as no surprise that I've also developed a huge fondness for horror-themed rock music. A horror-rock band that quickly became one of my favorites is the Texas-based Ghoultown. Their unique mixture of Psychobilly, Punk, and Southern-fried Rock shows the strong influence of both Johnny Cash and The Sex Pistols, and their lyrics reflect a deep and intimate familiarity with horror films both classic and b-grade. In a recent review of one of Ghoultown's CDs, the Canadian horror rag RUE MORGUE gave the band a five-skull rating (their highest) and described their music as "dark, dusty, and cruel." To a horror-rock band, they couldn't have offered a better compliment.



Ghoultown's TALES FROM THE DEAD WEST features some of the horror tunes that brought the band to national attention. In the song "Killer in Texas," which was featured in the horror film AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (2002), a killer simultaneously celebrates and laments his homicidal skills; in the hauntingly melodious "The Burning," a sociopath explains why he neither needs nor truly desires the company of others; and "Death of Jonah Hex" relates the passing of a gunslinger who, because of his dealings with satanic forces in this life, stands to suffer greatly in the afterlife.

If you're already a fan of Ghoultown, TALES FROM THE DEAD WEST will make a fine addition to your music collection. But if you're a horror buff who has never heard the band before, TALES FROM THE DEAD WEST will make a deliciously ghoulish introduction."
