CD Reviews

A Newgrass Explosion
Ben Knoblet | Bradley, WV USA | 12/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you like Neil but not bluegrass - Buy it! If you like phenomemal bluegrass picking but not Neil - Buy it! If you like either Neil Young or Bluegrass this is a must Buy. The instramental arrangements on this album are extremely creative and very inovative, while at the same time it keeps the character and likeness of Neil's original recordings of his songs, and it keeps the listeners attention because it is very exciting music. I will warn the buyer though, this album is much more of a Newgrass sound than it is traditional but it is totaly phenominal music! When I bought this I thought I might be taking a risk because I was not a bluegrass fan but it converted my music tastes and it inspired me to check out some other great bluegrass."
Disappointing

"lite-bluegrass, newgrass, either way this doesn't do justice to either bluegrass music or Neil Young. Another review wondered if Neil has heard this, and I hope he hasn't. This is best reserved for an elevator, or background music for an SUV ad."
Very Special !

"This CD just arrived and I've been listening to it all morning. I sort of like bluegrass, though I am not a fan. I am a huge Neil fan. This is quality music. I'm really impressed with Hey Hey My My, Mr Soul & Everybody Knows. These musicians really catpure the emotion of these particular Neil songs. I wonder what Neil thinks of this compilation?"
