A MASTERPIECE!
H. J. Sandford | Yorkshire, England | 07/09/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"An absolute first rate production by the legendary Georgie Fame recorded live at Ronnie Scotts. Tragically Ronnie is no longer with us but I am quite sure he would be proud to see the likes of Georgie grace his establishment. This cd oozes that sassy jazz talent that so many artists fail to achieve. Mr Fame is ably assisted by some of the finest players, Guy Barker on trumpet but what makes it for me is that the two saxophonists (alto and tenor) dont come any finer than Alan Skidmore and Peter King. A vast aray of international jazzers including the likes of Jimmy Smith, Count Basie, Duke Ellington & Stan Getz also grace this recording to complete a work made in the spirit of truely good jazz.Mr Fame's dedications throughout the recording add a subtle taste of Ronnie's atmosphere and I personally enjoy the dedication on track six, Vinyl, to Ray's Jazz shop in London having had experience of this fine emporium myself. Another personal favourite is Vanlose Stairway but I have a feeling Mr Fame would make a first rate effort on any jazz track. In essence, a masterpiece! It should be in every jazzers collection."
