Great "American" Music
M. Baldwin | Salt Lake City, UT United States | 09/15/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"George Chadwick may be one of the underrepresented composers of the late 19th/early 20th centuries. His orchestral scores are colorful, exciting and new. His biggest detractors argue that he is merely a conglomeration of German and French influences, but what better represents the music of a nation of immigrants? Listeners will not get the "Copland/Gershwin" sound from his music, but given half a chance, most will come to enjoy this important early composer of American Classical Music. Tam O'Shanter is probably the best work on the disc, but the others are worthy of listening and performance."
