"Finally! Someone transferred the George Russell Sextet in K.C. vinyl to CD! This is a great, progressive jazz recording from 1961, from the genius who penned "The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization," a book and theory which revolutionized jazz, and still sells for over $100 a copy today.
It's not for the faint of heart, or casual jazz listener. This baby's for the serious jazz fan or student.
There are several other giants of jazz appearing on the album: Chuck Israels on bass, Don Ellis on trumpet (who plays a very cool solo consisting mainly of fourths on the Clifford Brown classic, "Sandu"), as well as author and composer David Baker on trombone. I'd list the others, but I'm doing this from memory, so you'll have to hit Google to find out more. Or better yet: buy a copy!"

""Original Swinging Instrumentals" is the subtitle of the album and defines the content spot-on: original (quite) and swinging (tricky, funny, unpredictable swing). "Sextet in K.C." is the most inviting way to get into George Russell's dancing mind, more so I think than the Bluebird recordings or the superlative "Ezz-thetics". Great band, excellent tracks, highly stimulating music."
