This is the most poorly documented CD I have ever seen. "George Gershwin, piano" is the only credit given, although the disc opens with Swanee played on a banjo. There are also two uncredited conductors (Paul Whiteman for the "Rhapsody in Blue," Nathaniel Shilkret for "An American in Paris," the latter having no piano). The other recordings are indeed Gershwin piano solos, and the whole disc does provide a welcome reminder of how wonderful a pianist he was. Still, somebody deserves a good slap for the shoddy presentation of the disc, and the transfers from 78s are only so-so. --Leslie Gerber
