Synopsis

Product Description
Most rock history writers have their blind spots here and there, conferring fame and prestige on certain artists and consigning others to comparative obscurity. Sometimes, critical faves aren't embraced as warmly by the public as they are by the writers. Sometimes, artists are just a couple of degrees ahead of the curve of public taste, and they never quite get their careers in sync the way that, by all rights they should, were this a just world.

Genya Ravan hasn't gotten her due in the great book that is the History of Rock, and it's past time that this particular wrong was righted.

And I Mean It came out in 1979, just as the punk/new wave thing was taking hold of the public's imagination in America, and while the album looked kinda new wave, it was a little too eclectic to pigeonhole her in that genre. In some ways, that was a good thing, but in others, it left her standing at the corner of Punk Avenue and Hard Rock Boulevard, and the great Bus of Commercial Success didn't stop there.

But this record is sexy, it has a brilliant duet with Mott The Hoople's Ian Hunter ("Junkman") and it kicks you-know-what.

CD Reviews

Genya at her Greatest!
gassy goon | 08/24/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Genya Ravan - a visionary rocker who is in her prime on this hard-rockin' album. Genya knew how to produce & make her own records better than anyone else. This album is stunning from start to finish. If you like women rock singers, here is a true original for you. Together with her previous release " URBAN DESIRE ", " ... AND I MEAN IT !" stands the test of time as 2 of the greatest albums by female rock artists ever.

Hard-rock, R&B , & even doo-wop - Genya Ravan could weave all these influences together on these 10 tracks that are all killer. PEDAL TO THE METAL, I WON'T SLEEP ON THE WET SPOT NO MORE, IT'S ME , LOVE ISN'T LOVE & I'M WIRED WIRED WIRED are the work of genius - songs that are great & rock as hard as any 70's band of the time [ think Faces or Alice Cooper's original band ], and contain some witty lyrics as well. IT'S ME is as punk and outrageous as Patti Smith's ROCK & ROLL NIGGER.

This album came out in the summer of 1979 , and should have been a massive hit. Instead, 20th Century Fox Records folded, and the album didn't get further, as it deserved. Genya went on to produce RONNIE SPECTOR'S first solo album SIREN, as well as other artists and continues to record & perform in New York. She's captured in one of her many moments of greatness throughout this amazing album."
Classic...And I Mean It

"Thanks to Hip O Records for putting this lost classic back out there. This is a great rock and roll record - - it's really not punk rock, though that is what the album cover shot would have you believe. Every song here is strong and they still sound fresh. Genya - - you rock!"
