CD Reviews

Two Whole Years of Hits !!!
PHILIP S WOLF | SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA. USA | 08/29/2008

"I spotted this CD in a record store in The British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, way back in 1992. This collection covers a two year period of Genesis from 1981-1983. There are two rare Genesis tracks included from the 1981 tour that are not on the: "Three Sides Live" double LP. Those being the "Turn it on Again' Medley and "Firth of Fifth". The rest of this CD is culled from the; "Abacab" & "Genesis" Lp's. This period was the Band's Big MTV Breakout Era. The Hits are indeed here; "That's All", "Misunderstanding", "Abacab", "No Reply At All", "Paperlate", "Mama" and "Illegal Alien".

For a single CD collection this one covers a bit of ground, the dozens of Box-Sets now available give you the total package, but you are gonna pay Big Bucks for those sets. If you want to impress your friends with The: "Turn It On Again" Medley and the no-where-else available: "Firth of Fifth", this is the CD for you. The rest of you folks can hang on as another series of Box-Sets are about to be released once more!

Three Stars..."
An unnecessary release from Genesis

"'Turn It On Again: The Best of 1981-1983' isn't an official Atlantic release, which really makes you wonder why this is even on the market.

Most of the songs were taken from 'Abacab,' 'Three Sides Live' and 'Genesis.' Although several songs here appear as b-sides on singles (most notably 'Paperlate') others appear on the official releases.

Overall, don't waste your money and time on this set. Buy their official records. Or, if you're looking for a good single-disc compilation, check out 'Turn It On Again: The Hits,' which covers the 1981-1983 period relatively well.

But, unless your a die-hard Genesis fan who must have everything the group ever released, skip this one."
