Synopsis

Album Description
Songs in the Key of Evil is the second full length CD from Satan's favorite surf band, Gein and the Graverobbers. These 13 terror tunes pick up wear "Hang 10" left off. The tracks on Songs in the Key of Evil have a fast-paced drippy style with intertwined melodies that delves the listener into the eerie world of Gein and the Graverobbers. The melodies are haunting and full of the kind of creepy mood you'd find in that old abandoned house up on the hill that none of the kids will go near at night.

CD Reviews

Authentic contemporary surf...from Boston???
downtown | Brighton, MA USA | 12/19/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"A store clerk recommended this album to yours truly while I was purchasing some old 60s surf guitar classics. I was skeptical, to put it mildly...most contemporary surf music really leaves something to be desired. Bands turn the reverb all the way up and call it "surf", but it's just not the same. And these guys aren't even from SoCal! How good could it be?But this is true, honest-to-god, bust-out-the-boards-and-hang-ten surf, in the tradition of The Chantays, The Pyramids, The Avengers, and The Ventures. The guitar riffs sound great, and the band is clearly having a lot of fun, which is what surf music is really all about. In fact the only feature of this CD that makes it obvious this is a contemporary band and not out of the 60s is the quality of the recording. The "spooky Halloween" theme can be a little silly, but the music's good enough that it really doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be 40 years old to be real surf music!"
This graveyard rocks!

"I came across this band while looking at the MoonRays site. The whole album reminds me of the basement scene in Night of the Living Dead where the little girl comes back to life and eats her parents. Musically it's like Agent Orange meets Slayer. Very catchy, hooky and fast, with tons of graveyard/lateshow

atmosphere.

It's a great album and I hope to hear more from these guys."
Spooktacular necrophonic surf sounds

"Gein and the Graverobbers are creepy enough to make the devil step aside, while maintaining a highy energetic feel and upbeat flow without the cheese.

With violetnly catchy hooks, riffs, beats, and passages,

Gein and the Graverobbers viciously display their songwriting expertise with the ability to draw you into their soundscapes

as you become part of them.

Saturated in reverb and true to the surf rock enthusiast,

you won't be dissappointed with this album full of rip roaring psychotic surf sounds which instilled in me that anything can be accomplished with guitars, bass and drums. And of course, don't forget the Fender reverb.
