Synopsis

Amazon.com
A compilation of the first two import-only Galliano albums, What Colour Our Flag is a remarkable tryst of poetry with jazz, reggae, soul, and club music. Rob Gallagher serves as the visionary and primary songwriter of the collective, but this is certainly not a solo mission. Everyone from '70s fusionist Roy Ayers to the Style Council's Mick Talbot joins the party, while Galliano's usual cast of characters adds several layers of dynamic funk to the proceedings. From the bluesy folk-rap of "Earthboots" to the dizzying dancehall grind of "Jus' Reach," this is one of the finest meltdowns of musical genres in recent history. The outstanding "Prince of Peace" single is also included. --Aidin Vaziri

A True Eclectic Beat of FUNKJAZZHIP-HOPGLOBAL COOL

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once upon a time in the early 90s, on the opposite spectrum to the whole grunge scene, there was another music movement emmerging. (Unfortunately teen-candy pop and gansta rap ended up taking over the mainstream.) Galliano fuses urban street beats (especialy from the UK) , jazzy rythmns, rock, blues and rap together to form a new sound with positive lyrics and groovin' vibes. Echoing to back to the glory days of Soul II Soul, Incognito, Arrested Development to name a few, Galliano's music brings on a-move-your-body, UK style feel good funk with postive messages of community, love and global awarness. After having lost the album ages ago,it was a treat to have found "What Colour Our Flag" at a used CD shop. Oh the nostlagia!!! It's a far road away from all the pop[junk] that you get on your top 40s and such. If your from LA, you might want to call a DJ at KCRW to dig into their archives and play a track or two. You'll start bobbing your head to the beat, moving your body in joy, listening to the smart lyrics and digging on the brillie vibes."
