CD Reviews

Gaelle's Transient is definitely worth a look

"Gaelle's CD started off with a lot of promise. The first song "Falling" is a great song. It features a latin-style beat with well placed guitar and piano melodies. However, "Parkway" was a total turn off. It sounded like something I heard before. It sounded like the stuff I was trying to avoid. It's typical R&B. I'm totally sick of it and it rears its ugly head here 2 times. I'm sure lots of women would like the song "Parkway", but it wasn't something that I was expecting from a Naked Music artist. That's why I buy Naked Music. To escape the clutches of commercial sounding songs. And that's what I got here 2 times. That isn't to say that this a bad CD because ut's quite good. However, as I said, the typical R&B sounding songs appear much more than I would like.

"Give it back" sounds okay, but it didn't catch on with me. As her vocals don't sound as good here with some of the other songs.

"Fade Away" is a cool song. It's nice and chill.

"Love you more" is a good song. With catchy song with a nice melody.

"Repetition" is okay, but it sounds like one of those typical R&B songs

"Shape Shifting" doesn't really sound like a song, it sounds more like an interlude.

"Transient" has a nice chill mood. I like this one.

"Rain" is another good one. It kind of sounds like an Everything But the Girl song. Filled with a downtempo house beat. I really liked this one.

""Separate Rooms" is another good song. Probably my second favorite. This is a song with a haunting electronic beat.

Gaelle has been featured on Ananda Project's song "Cascade of Colors", which I absolutely loved. So I was already somewhat familiar with her. This CD is pretty good overall and I would recommend it for those who like slow, downtempo like songs.

Intriguing

"If mixing 80's vibes with ambient and adding introspective lyrics is your cup of tea, this is the one for you.

Gaelle's Transient continues Naked Music's latest trend of going retro with some 80's effects. I don't mean the scratches and some of the more dated-sounding effects ... but somehow this album sounds like one of the best smooth recordings from 1985 that you never heard. Yet it remains throughly modern with blissfully sparse production that allows the unique chord structures to stand out. Gaelle's quiet yet authoritative voice -- a butterscotch alto -- is a perfect match for the downtempo mood that is occasionally spiced with flashes of house. No ad-libs, no acrobatics ... and none are needed.

The lyrics are perfectly suited to this release; but different than what we're used to from Naked Music in that they are somewhat dark and not immediately uplifting. Some would even say that certain songs are depressing because of the subject matter, so don't expect the light, romantic touch of Aya or Blue Six here.

Transient is a solid effort and worthy of 4 stars."
A Beautiful Album....

"Gaelle's Transient is one of the most beautiful albums I've heard in a very long time. I been listening to it from beginning to end nonstop. It's a real good nighttime album. The album has great songwriting and production...and most of all...it's something different. Not your typical RnB. It's RnB, electronica, chillout, house...all in one. Nice little mix. The live instruments in the album balances out the electronic sounds. I like all the songs, but "Falling" (#1) is the money-maker. What a perfect way to start an album. The title track "Transient", "Repetition", "Fade Away" are also great standout tracks. But the whole thing is beautiful...that's the best way to describe it. I'm planning to buy my girlfriend a copy of this for her birthday, I think she'll love it. If you like the "Best of Sade" album, then you should have no problem getting into this. This is not your typical "trying to be mainstream" type of music. Gaelle just wanna be cool with you, make you feel good...and her album did the job. Please get the album. You will not regret it. You need something different to listen to anyway.
