Another Great Album By G.U.N.
Mark Knopfler | UK | 06/16/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is another classic by Scottish band G.U.N. which sadly doesn't exist anymore. The song Better Days is chosen the best GUN song by it's fans. If you are a hard rock fan of 80's and 90's all GUN albums except the last one (which is not available at Amazon) is a must for you. I don't know why they never caught enough attention. I miss their music a lot. Wish they will get together again."
Great rock and roll -- band once opened for the Stones!!!

"It must be something with the word "Gun." Have gun in your name, and will travel in the world of rock and roll. First it was Guns N' Roses, then L.A. Guns. You can add Scotland's Gun to the list of great gunslinging rock and rollers. This band sounds like neither GNR or L.A. Guns, but like both of those bands, was a damn good rock and roll band. Find this album and everything else from this band. Apparently, three different complete albums are out there before the band decided to call it quits.

TAKING ON THE WORLD was the band's debut, and arguably best effort. Incredibly, or not, Gun opened for the Rolling Stones on a European stadium tour way back in 1990. Yet, most people in America have never heard of this band. A crying shame.

Album opener "Better Days" is a great introduction to the band, next song "The Feeling Within" might be their best song ever, and "Inside Out," "Money," "Can't Get Any Lower" and the title track "Taking On The World" are all solid songs. The rest of 10-song album isn't bad either. Not much filler here, pretty much all killer.

Gun is great rock and roll delivered with passion, guts and true feeling. Singer Mark Rankin is the calling card here. While surrounded by a tight sounding very competent rock band, it's Rankin's begging to be heard voice that gives Gun its best shot. Very original great sounding rock and roll songs that sound like no one before them or anyone since. Find it. You just might love it."
Abolutely Solid

"Why, on the strength of this album, the Scots GUN didn't make it big is beyond me. Along with their fellow rockers Texas they created some great music. Texas managed to have in there but for the most part GUN faded away. Their second album "Gallus" doesn't quite reach the bar set by this album. TOTW = Excellent lyrics, solid music from the raucous Better Days to the dark "Can't Get Any Lower" there isn't a bad track on teh album. If you like rock then you won't be disappointed. Hard to believe it was 17 years ago when I saw them live."
